Don Garlits discusses the Don Garlits museum and why it is so
important to preserve Drag Racing's history.
From the time shortly after the millions of servicemen returned home from World War II, drag racing began a steady growth
across the American landscape, until it exploded into a major force on the motorsports scene in the mid-1960s, and never
left. The sport grew, and the vibrant performance aftermarket industry was built with it.
PROJECT 1320, a series of television documentary films, will capture the historical perspectives of the pioneers of the sport.
The goal is to film first-person narratives coupled with still images and old movies of the period, to tell the stories of
"Who, What, When, Where, Why" of our heroes and legends in their words.
We'll center on the racers, manufacturers, associations plus the behind the scenes people... what it took to bring this great
sport to the current level. The racers who will be a part of this series will include some of today's stars but it will
include the legends ‚ whose contributions may have faded in our minds ‚ but who helped launch the sport, nurtured it and
saw it become a major motorsport and a multi-billion dollar industry.
Our website is your home to join the effort as a "Friend of PROJECT 1320", to watch from "behind the scenes" as the documentaries
are being filmed and edited. You'll see old, never published photos and movies which will trigger your own flood of memories.
You will be able to join a network of fellow drag racing history fans, who will assure this important saga of automotive history
is not lost.
